It is the process of ensuring the data is consistent, accurate and compliant with predefined rules. Data Validation plays a crucial role in Data Quality and Data Management. It helps to prevent errors and inconsistencies as it affects decision-making which has a significant impact on business operations.
Some of the key points you should be aware of: —
- It checks the accuracy (i.e.) it is free from errors like typos, data entry mistakes, etc.
- Then it will check for completeness (i.e.) all the required fields are filled with values.
- Data needs to be consistent within and across datasets.
- Check the data formats are correct, which means the date has a format or the email has a structure. These things matter here.
- The data range can be within acceptable limits. For example, date
- All the above helps in maintaining data integrity.
- Always generate validation reports to highlight the errors for review and resolution.
